Beloved boomer shooter Ultrakill teases a new level, and it's out of this world

The Ultrakill Layer 8 Fraud teaser is here, showing off the boomer shooter's next totally mind-bending level that's due out this year.

What's your favorite videogame level? There's Titanfall 2's time travel in Effect and Cause, Dishonored 2's mechanical house in The Clockwork Mansion, or Count Razoff's sprawling home in Rayman 3's The Bog of Murk. In each and every one of those examples, the gameplay and visuals work in perfect unison, meaning that they've stuck in my brain all these years later. Lucky me, then, because New Blood Interactive has just shown off Ultrakill's next level, Layer 8 - Fraud, and it looks like a chaotic mix of my favorites.

Ultrakill might still be in Steam Early Access, but it's a boomer shooter you need to try if you're a fan of the genre. Fast-paced, ultra-violent, and adorned with truly stunning retro visuals, it's a feast for all your senses. Mankind has gone extinct, but we've left behind machines fueled by blood. With supplies running low, you take up arms as V1, who heads the only place with any left: Hell.

If that's not one of the coolest setups for an FPS game you've ever heard, you need to tell me what's better immediately. V1's journey through Hell still has a few levels left, but we've finally got a look at the next one: Fraud.

Starting in what looks like a grander scale version of Resident Evil's Spencer Mansion, things very quickly take a turn. The walls shift, rooms move, and V1 starts falling through corridors. That already had me intrigued, but then Ultrakill's new level suddenly gets even better. The world outside this mansion is a jumbled mess of buildings and perspectives, and looks like the perfect new level for the game.

While Ultrakill is still in early access right now, I can wholeheartedly recommend it. It's a must-play boomer shooter that just keeps getting better, with a recent visual and technical revamp ramping things up to 100. Don't just take my word for it, though, because it's one of the highest-rated games on Steam. With over 150,000 reviews, Ultrakill is currently sitting at a near-flawless 97% rating, giving it the elusive 'overwhelmingly positive' label.

Ultrakill Layer 8 - Fraud is set for launch this year, and we have Layer 9 to go yet, so the full launch is still in the works.
