After some confusion, Team Cherry clarifies Hollow Knight Silksong launch info

Hollow Knight Silksong made a surprise appearance at Xbox's summer showcase, but Team Cherry has had to iron out some confusion as a result.

Now that the biggest videogame showcases of the summer have come and gone, I'm sad to say we didn't get a Hollow Knight Silksong shadow drop or launch date announcement. I'd been holding out hope, but I now understand that was a pipe dream. Team Cherry's internet-breaking Metroidvania did come up a few times, though, getting name-dropped by Deadpool during the Summer Game Fest showcase, with five seconds of new footage also debuting at the Xbox event. In fact, the latter seems to have caused a bit of confusion as to when Silksong is actually out, but Team Cherry has cleared things up.

Thanks to the Nintendo Switch 2 announcement livestream from earlier this year, we know the Hollow Knight Silksong shows up.

Xbox president Sarah Bond came out to show off the company's new handheld, the ROG Xbox Ally, with the Metroidvania's protagonist Hornet showing up, too. Alongside a couple of seconds of gameplay, Bond says, "The highly anticipated Hollow Knight Silksong will be available at launch and in Game when the Ally releases later this year."

With the ROG Xbox Ally set to launch holiday 2025 – that's typically between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day – the internet suddenly set alight. The assumption was that Silksong was going to be a ROG Xbox Ally launch title, meaning we'd be waiting right towards the end of the year for the handheld's release. Luckily, it doesn't seem like it's going to be that long of a wait.

Team Cherry's Matthew Griffin then dropped by the Hollow Knight Discord, saying, "I confirmed before Holiday – we are not tied to a console release." This suggests we could be getting the game before early-November, but it doesn't get us much closer. At the very least, we now know Silksong isn't tied to the ROG Xbox Ally's launch date, even if it will be playable on the handheld.

We've still got a short while to wait for Silksong, then, but I have the utmost faith in Team Cherry that it's going to be worth it. In the meantime, we'll drop everything and update you with any new information we find, just like this recent Steam update.
