Who are the best Dune Awakening masters? During the character creation process, you must pick a master under whom you have previously studied. It's a part of your backstory, the part we never actually see, but it's a crucial choice that determines your skills in the early game.
All Dune Awakening could make or break you as you take your first steps in the harsh wilderness of Arrakis. To help you pick the best master, here are all the Dune Awakening classes, arranged from best to worst.
Dune Awakening class tier list
Tier | Class |
S-tier | Swordsmaster |
A-tier | Bene Gesserit, Planetologist |
B-tier | Mentat, Trooper |
Swordsmaster
- Starting Ability - Knee Charge
The Swordmaster is far and away our favorite class, as their starting skills are incredibly useful in the early scavenging stages. The Knee Charge can kill early-game scavengers in one hit, and it's super easy to control. If you're up against one melee and one ranged enemy, you can down the melee foe with the Knee Charge, then trigger your Deflection skill to get up close to the ranged foe. You don't even need a gun to clear out a camp in mere seconds.
Bene Gesserit Acolyte
- Starting Ability - Voice: Compel
The Bene Gesserit skills revolve around the Weirding Way, The Voice, and body control. One of the things that makes the Bene Gesserit mastery among the top Dune Awakening classes is its all-rounder nature, featuring abundant healing and combat skills. Compel is among the best skills as you get into more challenging areas, but it does have a slow cooldown. It's also harder to master, so the Bene Gesserit stands out as a better choice for your second class.
Mentat
- Starting Ability - The Sentinel
Less focused on direct combat, the Mentat's skills are best used in a ing role, with their ability to deal poison damage and raise shields aiding in combat. This makes the Mentat an incredibly good starting class if you're playing with friends as it provides essential to keep your party alive. However, it doesn't quite hold up if you're playing alone.
Trooper
- Starting Ability - Shigawire Claw
You might think these dedicated soldiers would have the best combat skills, but they sadly fall short. The Shigawire Claw is primarily used for traversal, and while it can be utilized in combat, it's difficult to control, has poor range, and is slow. It can be used to stagger opponents, but it's still not better than either the Bene Gesserit or Swordmaster starting skills. However, the Trooper's Gunnery skills improve your ability with ranged weapons, so they're definitely worth learning later on.
Planetologist
The Planetologist is the fifth class, but cannot be chosen during the character creation process, forcing you to find them in Arrakis. One of the Planetologist's starting skills is the Suspensor Pad that directly competes with the Trooper's Claw in of traversal - and wins. Their mechanic skills allow your vehicles and fuel to last longer, while their knowledge as scientists aids in mining and resource gathering. The lack of combat skills is presumably why the Planetologist is not a starting class, but we recommend learning this mastery as soon as it's available.
Dune Awakening trainer locations
There is a basic and an advanced trainer for each class, with the only exception being the Planetologist. Here are the Dune Awakening masters locations:
- Basic Swordsmaster (Arno) - Pinnacle Station, Jabal-Eifrit Al-gharb
- Basic Bene Gesserit (Sister Mesa) - Helius Gate, Eastern Shield Wall

All of the basic mentor locations can be found fairly early, but you will need to have made some progress to be able to carry out their quests.
With that, you have everything at your disposal to create a character and learn from all the Dune Awakening masters at your leisure. One of the most important skills you'll need is how to get Dune Awakening guides to you on your journey through Arrakis.
